Your Questions About Free Energy

How much energy does it take for a mitochondria to function?

I know it is the aerobic metabolism, and it’s job is to make energy, but how much energy does it use for itself just to function?

This is a weird question and I’m expecting a lot of answers about oxidation potentials and Gibbs free energy because of the nature of the electron transfer chain… I wonder how the chain even gets started…

let me know If this wording is kind of fuzzy

This is a difficult question. ATP is required for many functions, movement of proteins into the matrix or ATPase proton pumps.
As far as I know, the total amount of ATP required has never been calculated, but its requirements would be insignificant in comparison to the amount of ATP it generates.
